Your first date can be short
Why a coffee often tells you more than a whole evening – and how to plan a meetup that feels easy.
A lot of first dates don't fail because of the person – they fail because of the format. Three courses, two hours, a fixed table: that's a big stage for two people who are only just getting to know each other.
A short meetup takes the pressure off. If it clicks, you simply stay longer. If it doesn't, it was an hour, not a lost evening.
Start small, stay open
A coffee, a walk by the water or a slice of cake at your favorite café: places where you can talk and move around work better than loud bars.
Plan a natural ending – like something you have to get to afterwards. It sounds unromantic, but it makes the date more relaxed, because nobody has to figure out how to leave politely.
Curiosity beats perfection
You don't have to shine. Ask questions that go beyond the résumé: What surprised you this week? What do you love making time for?
In the end, it doesn't matter whether everything went perfectly – it matters whether you want to see the person again. After an hour, you usually know that pretty well.
